An investigation has started by the officials
of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control
(NAFDAC) on Danyang Trade and Laofang Chinese Food Supermarket, Lagos.
The supermarket was allegedly importing and distributing unregistered
products across the state and beyond for the consumption by the
unsuspecting public.
The director general of the NAFDAC, Dr Paul Orhii, made the disclosure during a news conference in Lagos on Friday, August 7. The DG was represented by Kingsley Ejiofor, the head of investigation and enforcement directorate of the agency.
The supermarket is located at F17/18 H6, Oba Elegushi International Market Ajah, Lagos. It had up to 20 types of unregistered products labelled in a foreign language without interpretation.
“As at the time of investigation, 20 unregistered products labelled in Chinese language without English translation were discovered in their outlets.
“Imported eggs – Tenge Egg, were among the products found in the premises. The offending products have been evacuated to our warehouse and the suspects have been interrogated and the investigation is on-going,” the official said.
Orhii then assured that the agency would continue to strive in ensuring that Nigerians had good quality, safe and wholesome regulated products.
Meanwhile, the NAFDAC has branded the recent invitation of its DG by the EFCC over allegation of abuse of office as an attempt targeted by drug con artists who are out to corrupt the agency.
