Mr Sogunro was until his appointment the deputy rector, admin of the institution. Shortly after the expiration of the immediate past rector, Dr Abdul Azeez Abioye Lawal, Sogunro was appointed acting rector before his confirmation as the substantive rector.
A new dawn has berth in the 38 years old institution, as the new rector in his speech, stated that ‘under my leadership, efforts shall be geared towards the sustenance of the culture of excellence handed over by successive administrations in the polytechnic. I promise to do my utmost to ensure that LASPOTECH improves on its current rating, from being one of the foremost polytechnics in our country, to becoming the best tertiary institution in Nigeria and the continent of Africa.’
The new rector seemed to have hit the ground running as he highlighted some of the major steps taken by his administration in the past few weeks of assumption of office, to include:
- Constitution
of grant writing committee to facilitate access to developmental funds
- Opening
of talks with Centre for Management Development (CMD), National Planning Commission (NPC), NITDA, FIRO and other development agencies.
- Constitution
of Agro-Allied Business Think-Tank to resuscitate palm oil production in the
polytechnic and to assist Management to establish profit-yielding piggery,
fishery, poultry, etc.
- Installation
of high-calibre bakery and water equipment towards commercial bread and water
production in the Polytechnic, effective from August, 2015.
- On-going
restructuring of the LASPOTECH Konsult Limited to make it a more profitable
venture.
