POLICE APPREHEND IKORODU BANK ROBBERS

The gang of armed robbers that attacked two banks (First Bank & Zenith Bank) in Ipakodo area Ikorodu last week Wednesday have been caught by men of the Nigerian police.

Daily Sun learnt that the arrest was made by soldiers on duty in Ondo State where a member of the robbery gang had travelled to spend his own part of the money carted away from the two banks they robbed simultaneously.

This Day  gathered that before the police succeeded in arresting the suspects, some soldiers who were on a stop and search duty in Ondo State had first arrested one of the suspects who was on his way to his home town in Okitikpupa, Ondo state.

It was discovered during the stop and search exercise, that the suspect was carrying in his bag, bundles of new N1000 notes with bank wrappers. Aware of the robbery incident in Lagos, the soldiers detained him and alerted the Lagos state police command.

BUHARI MAY PROBE CENTRAL BANK OF NIGERIA

There are indications that President Muhammadu Buhari may extend his investigation into recent activities of some government agencies and departments to the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Speaking at the meeting with state governors on June 23, Buhari stated that officials of the past government had thrown the country into financial crisis. However, he assured Nigerians that the stolen funds would be recovered and systemic leakages stopped.
A reliable source within the presidency told The Punch that the issue of alleged financial malpractices in the CBN featured prominently during Buhari’s meeting with the state governors.

“I can tell you authoritatively that the issue of the CBN came up during the meeting the president had with state governors recently. I remember vividly that one governor raised the issue and called on the president to extend ongoing probes to the CBN,” the source said.


However, the official did not disclose the president’s position to the suggestion made by the governor.
When contacted, Femi Adesina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, said he had no information on the issue. He added that Buhari’s administration was committed to transparency and accountability in all sectors.

Meanwhile, the the National Economic Council chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo set up a four-member committee to probe the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Commission and the Excess Crude Account managed by the last administration.

HELP! IKORODU-SAGAMU ROAD TRAFFIC IS KILLING!!!- RESIDENTS, MOTORISTS CRY OUT

The federal government of Nigeria or its concerned agencies surely need to see the current state of the Sagamu-Ikorodu federal road and offer justifiable reasons to commuters on why they must be caught up in avoidable traffic gridlock for hours, for a journey of less than 10 minutes.

The road, which plays host to many major government institutions like the Lagos state polytechnic, LASTMA and VIO / Federal road safety corp offices and 174 battalion army barracks is currently in a dilapidated and near collapsed state. This is not to mention many major industries like PZ Cussons, Monarch Steel, Super Engineering, Spintex Mill, etc also located on this road.

Traffic gridlocks on this road has become a perennial experience for residents of this route as well as motorists who frequently ply the inter-state road. Interestingly, the road has already become a menace to all stakeholders having been in this state for the past five years, with only palliative measures employed by the state and federal government whenever the roads become almost impassable to motorists.

One is amused to know that the federal road maintenance agency (FERMA), the agency saddled with the responsibility of maintaining this road also has its office right on this road. Unfortunately, the agency’s presence on this route has not made the required impact in any way.  
Recounting his experience, a caterer whose shop is located along the route explained how he had to turn back home on Thursday, 2^nd July, 2015 after staying in the traffic for almost three hours, for a journey that would naturally have taken him about ten minutes.

Another road user who pleaded anonymity stated that the traffic situation on this route has become a daily occurrence. Citing a particular instance, the source who worships with Winners’ Chapel, Ikorodu disclosed how he spends an average of two hours or more in the traffic every Sunday when returning from the church also located on this route.

Of particular reference are the bad spots on the road between LASTMA office at Agbala and shortly after LASPOTECH Ikorodu campus, towards Odongnyan bus stop. This distance that should not take more than 10 minutes drive now take motorists between three to four hours. 

In a country where the economy is at its lowest ebb, it is unfortunate that businesses located on the Ikorodu-Sagamu road are the worst victims of this traffic situation as productive man hour are daily lost in the traffic by employees and employers alike whose sources of livelihood depends on plying the route.

Ayodeji Iginla, a former rector of Lagos state polytechnic and social commentator recently expressed his frustrations about the road on social media, suggesting that the road, officially categorized as a Trunk ‘A’ road be re-categorized as a trunk-less road, due to the sorry state of the road.

MEET THE NEW RECTOR OF LAGOS STATE POLYTECHNIC , MR SAMUEL SOGUNRO.

After series of bickering and uncertainties that followed the interview of candidates for LASPOTECH Rector, Lagos state governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has finally confirmed the appointment of one of the candidates, Mr. Samuel Oluyinka Sogunro as the substantive rector of the polytechnic effective from June 2015.



Born 54 years ago, precisely on March 17, 1961, Mr Samuel Sogunro hails from Lagos Island Local Government of Lagos State.  He started his post-primary education at Ansar-Ud-Deen Grammar School, Surulere in 1975.
In 1980, he transferred to the Jubril Martins Memorial Grammar School, Iponri also in Lagos where he obtained his West African School Certificate (WASC). Between 1981 and 1983, he attended Ansar-Ud-Deen College, Isolo, Lagos for his Higher School Certificate (HSC).

His thirst for academics took him to the University of Lagos (UNILAG), where he bagged the Bachelor of Science (Education) degree in Mathematics in 1987 and a Master of Science degree in Statistics in 1996.

Mr. Sogunro’s career as an academic staff of the Lagos State Polytechnic began in January 1990, when he was appointed as Lecturer III in the Department of Mathematics.  His appointment was subsequently confirmed in January 1992.

By the dint of hard work and determination, he made steady progress to the highest level in the academic cadre of the Polytechnic. He was promoted Lecturer II (October 1, 1993); Lecturer I (October 1, 1996); Senior Lecturer (October 1, 1999); Principal Lecturer (October 1, 2005).
He rose to the rank of a Chief Lecturer in the Mathematics Department, effective August 11, 2010 and Director of Academic Planning in the Polytechnic from 1st December, 2010 to 25th April, 2013.
He was appointed a Deputy Rector in charge of Administration on 26th April, 2013. Mr. Sogunro, apart from his current position, had held several managerial / administrative positions in the Polytechnic of excellence.

These include:  Coordinator, Mathematics, School of Part-Time Studies, Isolo; Ag. Director, School of Part-Time Studies, Isolo; Chairman, Central Examination Administration Committee, School of Part-Time Studies, Isolo; and  Deputy Rector, Administration among others.
As an academic, Mr. Samuel Oluyinka Sogunro has several publications that include; textbooks, journals, articles, seminars and conference papers to his credit.

LAGOS STATE GOVERNMENT SET TO RELOCATE IKORODU GARAGE MARKET

As the six-lane, multi-billion naira Ikorodu-Mile 12 road nears completion, with the construction company putting finishing touches and complimentary facilities in place in readiness for official commissioning; indication are rife that the Ikorodu round about / garage market would soon be relocated to a new site.

The new site of the market is at Oluwo Odikon market, close to Agric bus-stop, opposite St Augustine Catholic Church. Work on the new market site is nearing completion and almost ready for occupation by market men and women.

T&C Magazine's Ikorodu Marketplace correspondent visited the new market site to access the level of work in progress. The level of work on site can be said to be commendable as all the 470 market stalls were already completed. Our correspondent also observed that workers on site were working on the plumbing of the market toilets for water supply. Bricklayers were also seen doing some patching works.

In a chat with Alhaja Feyintolaoluwa, the Iyaloja of Oluwo Odikan market, who threw more light on the market under construction, she reiterated the fact that the nearly completed market consists of 470 spaces, and will be commissioned in no distant future.

The market leader however pleaded with Lagos state government to donate a transformer to the new market as electricity could be a big challenge to the market when commissioned. She therefore urged the Lagos state government to come to their aid on this germane issue, as it will make their good work complete.

She concluded by encouraging interested market men and women to come and book for spaces in the new market as spaces were still available.
